Management

Management is the process of conducting an activity through or with the help of others. Although there are many definitions of management, it is often emphasised that management is exercised in order to influence an organised group to formulate and work towards the achievement of certain objectives. That means the special kind of persuasive behavior where you focus on getting people to follow the direction you set. And you have to take the lead if you want to be a good leader.

Quote by Ulf Hahnemann  – “Management is about building trust in the organization – so that both the employees and the results flourish”

What is good management?

Good management is about mastering 4 disciplines in relation to the current leadership role:

  • strategic management – drawing vision, strategy, identifying potentials, making choices/opt-outs, leading towards vision – the future and through communication ensure anchoring so that everyone will join the journey.
  • Operational management – managing daily life, prioritizing resources, optimizing processes, ensuring communication and ongoing motivation and development of employees/manager
  • professional management – to ensure quality of work.
  • staff management – to ensure everyone performs at their best. Maintaining/attracting the right employees, ensuring nurturing and power of action in the team and individually, as well as developing the culture and the individual employee.

The illustration shows how management mirrors strategic management – and how professional management and staff management support operational management.

Across the 4 management disciplines, the personal management style is attributed, which must fit the culture and the context you are a part of, e.g growth vs. crisis and private vs. public company. As illustrated below:

The balance between the management disciplines depends on which managerial role to fill, it does not change the fact that you as a manager must be able to operate in all 4 disciplines.

Project and program management

There is a fine line between success and failure. It often goes between having resources available – and having the right resources at your disposal.

It goes between selecting employees in-house – who may have their own agendas – and choosing an external project manager who can drive the change or the project to the very end. And then it goes right where your responsibility lies. Because you can have so many people on the project. If they don’t succeed, you’re the one the arrow points to.

Find the right project or program manager

No matter in how good a time you stared, I bet you’ve tried to have a project that didn’t work out. Where the schedule sailed. Where the powers were unclear. Where everyone was in on the idea, but no one was in on pulling the load.

It’s really difficult to balance a project to succeed. We know this because we have tried it many times before – successfully. And we have the people who can make a success of you.

It is an art in itself to find the right employees – and just the right project manager. That’s why they don’t always hang on trees either.

At Move Consulting Group, we have built a consulting network with many skilled and experienced project and programme managers across Denmark who are ready to help you.

Change management in projects

A good strategy and a well-planned process are essential for success in a change project.

We work with people (managers and employees) and when changing workflows and organization, the focus is on:

  • Sponsor involvement
  • Timely communication
  • Motivation
  • Training
  • Handling resistance to change

so that changes are integrated, frustration/doubt is met, culture is adapted, new mindset is in place and the whole organization reaches the other side in a well-functioning setup, ready to create new better results.

It requires change management and change communication from start to finish to achieve the goal of implementing change – a successful change project:

What if the company/organization is facing a major change ?

Whether you plan to merge multiple IT infrastructures, merge business units, or maybe even two or more businesses, you need one experienced capacity to handle the process.

Choosing an internal resource can have many advantages, but it can also create more division in the company than good is. Therefore, more and more companies are choosing to take in an external manager who for a time takes the lead on one or more changes and helps everyone to reach the goal.

Whether there is a need for a sparring partner who can advise you on the whole process or whether you want a change leader who can take your visions and make them a reality is up to you. You’ll find both with us.

Get skilled experienced consultants delivered to your change project, whether one consultant or a team is needed to execute the changes in your business or IT project.

Interim management

If you as a company need management capabilities for acute challenges or for handling change projects, then interim management can be the flexible and fast solution.

Whatever the situation is:

  • Filling in a managerial role for the handling of the operation, where the current manager has resigned his/her position or it is to be terminated and permanent solution has not been found
  • Need for extra hands – a temporary expansion of the management team to implement a major change/transformation
  • A change of strategy where a different type of management is needed to carry out e.g a turn-around

The right solution can be found for you – full-time or part-time (minimum period is 1 month).

With an interim manager you get:

  • Quick help
  • A flexible arrangement
  • expertise in change management, optimization and successful execution of strategy and projects
  • Objectivity – leader with fresh eyes not colored by history
  • Great focus on execution and people

The consultant profile depends on the circumstances and the nature of the situation – based on your description, we present relevant candidates for the assignment.
