Project management

Project organization

Today, most development initiatives are organized into projects or programmes and in many places customer deliveries are handled in a project organization. Therefore, it has become crucial for the competitiveness of companies to be able to deliver successful projects and programmes – on time, economy and quality.

Successful projects are run by skilled project managers and are nurtured by the entire organization’s project behavior. And here the ball is played from the individual project manager’s competencies to the organization’s overall project culture.

A good professional project culture is characterized by a common approach, common values, an internally known and accepted practice around project work (internal management processes) that supports the project working form as well as clear well-defined roles and responsibilities at all organizational levels.

Unfortunately, projects fail far too often

Many large consultancy firms have been doing lots of studies on projects for several years and the sad statistics show that ~2/3 of all projects fail. We hear time and time again that IT projects are failing, and it is in both the public and private sectors:

https://www.computerworld.dk/art/254046/it-projekter-dumper-ogsaa-med-et-brag-i-den-private-sektor (please be aware of this is a Danish article)

One of the recurring reasons why IT projects fail is that we underestimate human aspects of the projects and instead spend all our time on the more technical parts. The challenge lies in the organizational, e.g in the interaction between the people who will use the technologies.

It means we really know the primary cause and the tools needed to solve the problems:

  • Management and project management disciplines
  • the ability to understand the people involved – listening to and involving users

There is no need to learn project lessons the hard way, as many have already done. Build solid project management and a good project culture that makes deliveries happen.

Portfolio Managment

Basically, portfolio management is about making the strategy a reality.

Portfolio management is a tool for creating:

  • overview of the overall program and project portfolio and the overall status of each project
  • Clear priorities – who should prioritize what, why, when and how
  • Transparency – clarity about who decides what, when, how funding is done and what the projects are about

Good portfolio management provides better management, creates better decisions and thus also better results.

If you have challenges with:

  • Lack of overview
  • Insufficient resource management
  • Unclear responsibility regarding the project model
  • Lack of anchoring in your organization

We can help you create an overview across projects and applications, whether inside or outside the framework of a Project Management Office (PMO).

We analyze the relationships between projects, programs and portfolios, resource capacity and reporting needs to ensure that the portfolio supports the strategic goals in the best way possible.

Move Consulting Group has the experienced consultants who can streamline your portfolio management and create relevant overview of your strategic goals, direction and progress while anchoring the learning in the organization.

Experienced people who have completed this kind of assignments many times before and can solve your practical challenges.

Process optimization

In an increasingly competitive market, there is a need for continuous focus on efficiency, as it is crucial to use resources in the way that provides maximum business value. Nevertheless, many companies have challenges in simplifying the processes of the business or IT, as it requires resources and means changes that often affect large parts or the entire organization.

Basically, process optimization is about minimizing resource waste and optimizing workflows. Workflows are of course a broad concept, and process optimization can cover everything from sales order handling, support management and deliveries to customers.

We help organizations optimize productivity and make continuous improvements in response to the changing framework conditions by involving the parts of the organization involved in the process – both in relation to business and IT Service Management (all that relates to IT operations and support) processes.

Value Stream Mapping (VSM), a LEAN management method in process optimization work, is used among several methods.

Process optimization of just a few processes can create significant improvements in an organization or for a project. Some of the key results that can be achieved with process optimization and simplification are:

  • Getting resources released
  • Improving deliveries and lifting quality
  • Creating greater job satisfaction among employees
  • To ensure support for regulatory and regulatory requirements (including GDPR)

That means there are great opportunities hidden in implementing optimization and simplification in the business and IT processes.

When we work with process optimization, non-value-adding processes are removed, we identify your core processes and competencies and, perhaps most importantly, create a common mindset around the future performance.

Optimize and simplify your processes – contact us and have a dialogue around your specific situation.
